Education system in Bangladesh

         Mentioned in one of the daily newspapers,"A digital society ensures an ICT driven knowledge-based society where information will be readily available online and where all possible tasks of the government, semi-government and also private spheres will be processed using state of the art technology" (Vision 2021). This can be done today also with the mean of technology but the question here is whether the population of Bangladesh is ready to accept this? that is whether they are aware of the advancement in the digital world? The answer to this is "No" as from the earlier post we can see that the literacy rate is less than 50%, and over which the income of the population is too low that they hardly afford to send their children to schools therefore, they end up with enrolling their kids in Bengali medium schools where until today the education system is totally different from the international standard.

In addition, due to the low income the population is unable to use the advanced technologies, for instance, computers. Most of the population in Bangladesh don't have the knowledge regarding the  penetration of Internet in the society and how this is being one of the means of communication. Moreover the usage of internet in Bangladesh is only, 617,300 (2009)(CIA Fact book) from which we can assume that the users are mostly high society population having a mean to English medium schools and universities.                                                                         

  In the present days, the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) has been using ICT in the domain of education, For instance they have created a lot of Web Pages where students and teachers can browse into and have access to e-library, and information regarding the school enrollment and online services such as online forms, some of the goals that this webpage or the community wants to fulfill are: (BANBEIS)  

• To ensure current data through collection of data and prepare database.
•  To maintain information flow through preparing and providing demand based information
• To find the indicators by estimating of Millennium Development Goals’ setting indicators.
• To help to reduce poverty through scaling inputs in education against  poverty.
• To develop educational management level incorporating ICT education through giving training on ICT.

            Well to have a look into the problems or flaws of these type of Web Pages are that there are very less students or user of Internet (as mentioned earlier) in this society, which contains students of English medium of education; thus they don't browse into books or information that are provided by the government as they are enrolled in private sector moreover from the website the data base is updated until 2010 where as there should be a continuous update every year. Therefore from the side of government also there is less use of ICT as they don't have much up-to -date information in the database.
